Russia strongly condemns the assassination attempt on Sudan's Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, and considers it a provocation during the country's difficult transition period, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Maria Zakharova said.

"We strongly condemn the terrorist act that took place in the capital of Sudan, aimed at destabilizing the internal political situation in the country. The provocative nature of this criminal act, committed in the context of a difficult transition period in Sudan, is obvious. We confirm our support for the course of the Sudanese leadership to achieve national consensus and solve the country's pressing socio-economic problems, " Zakharova said in a statement published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The assassination attempt on the Sudanese Prime Minister was made on March 9 in Khartoum. The explosive device was set off while the head of government was on his way to work. Hamdok was not injured;  one of the police officers who accompanied him was injured.
