Russian Deputy Foreign Minister met with the President of Burkina Faso

Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa and Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov during his working trip to Ouagadougou was received by the President of Burkina Faso  Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, and as well held meetings with the state Minister of national defense and Veterans Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation and Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly.

 

 


As reported on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during the talks, the parties confirmed  mutual approach of Moscow and Ouagadougou  to  the further development of the whole complex of traditionally friendly Russian-Burkinian relations, including deepening of political dialogue, expansion of trade and economic cooperation, promotion of promising mutually beneficial projects, strengthening of partnership in the fields of mineral resources, energy, transport, agriculture developments.

 

 


With regard to key international and African issues, in particular, the problem of countering terrorism and extremism in the Sahara-Sahel region, the mutual focus of Russia and Burkina Faso on strengthening cooperation within the UN and other multilateral platforms was emphasized.

 

 


Burkina Faso is a state in West Africa, a member of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

 

 


As for the religious composition of the population, more than 60% of the country's residents are Muslims, about 23% are Christians, and 15% are followers of religious cults.
