Russia Donates Two Mobile Laboratories to Tajikistan for Infectious Agent Research

The Republican Center for Combating Quarantine Diseases of the Ministry of Health in Tajikistan received two state-of-the-art mobile laboratories from Russia, equipped with high-tech instruments for researching infectious agents. The handover ceremony took place at the Istiklol Medical Center in Dushanbe.

 

Vera Khutorskaya, Minister Counselor of the Russian Embassy in Dushanbe, emphasized the significance of cooperation with Tajikistan in biosafety and sanitary and epidemiological well-being. She stated, "Interaction with Tajikistan and other CIS countries in the field of biosafety and sanitary and epidemiological well-being is one of the priority areas for us." Khutorskaya highlighted the importance of maintaining favorable sanitary conditions and the well-being of the population in the realm of healthcare, emphasizing the event as a testament to the long-term collaboration between the two nations.

 

During her speech, Khutorskaya noted that Russia has previously provided Tajikistan with six mobile medical treatment complexes, five mobile laboratories, and ten ambulances. She underscored Russia's commitment to supporting Tajikistan in reducing the risk of disease spread. Khutorskaya also acknowledged the role of specialists from the Russian research anti-plague institute "Microb" in exchanging experiences and supporting Tajik colleagues.

 

Tajikistan's Deputy Minister of Health and Social Protection, Chief Sanitary Doctor Abduholik Amirzoda, highlighted the transfer of equipment as part of an agreement between the governments of Tajikistan and Russia. He emphasized the necessity of strengthening surveillance in light of the ongoing global epidemiological situation.

 

The mobile laboratories presented include one mounted on the GAZ Sadko Next cross-country vehicle, designed for operations in mountainous regions. Equipped with biosafety features and instruments for on-field pathogen research, this laboratory is tailored for challenging terrains. The second laboratory, designed within an inflatable tent, offers flexibility in deployment on various terrains and easy transportation to desired locations. Both laboratories aim to enhance Tajikistan's capacity for monitoring and controlling the circulation of infectious agents, particularly in challenging environments.
