01 April 2019

Tunisia met on the margins of the 30th Summit of the League of Arab States with the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on the Middle East and African countries, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov and the President of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the focus of the conversation was on the aggravation of the situation in the Palestinian territories, primarily in the Gaza Strip.

The inadmissibility of the unilateral steps of the United States on Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, grossly violating the well-known international legal basis of the Arab-Israeli settlement, was noted.

At the same time, the Russian side reaffirmed its readiness to continue to support the Palestinian leadership in its efforts to resolve the situation in the Palestinian territories and in realizing the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to create their independent state within the 1967 borders.
