Russia extradited to Azerbaijan a person accused of terrorism

Russia has extradited a person accused of terrorism to Azerbaijan, the press service of the State Security Service (SSS) of the Republic reported on Monday.


"Azerbaijani citizen Falig Gabil oglu Veliyev, who was put on the international wanted list, was detained on the territory of Russia and handed over to the Azerbaijani side as part of the mutual legal assistance procedure on August 27, 2020," the State Security Service said in a statement. "Reasonable suspicions were revealed that Veliyev was trained in the commission of terrorist acts, the use of firearms, explosives and explosive devices, was involved by foreign intelligence agencies in exercises of an intelligence and sabotage nature, participated in illegal armed groups outside the country," the report notes.


He was charged under several articles of the Criminal Code, including providing liability for participation in a criminal association, training to commit acts of terrorism and participation in an unintended law of armed formations outside of Azerbaijan.
