Through its actions, the United States undermines the UN Charter and directly discredits the Secretary General and the Secretariat of the Organization, who are obliged to promptly resolve all organizational issues for the normal functioning of the UN, regardless of the country of the specific event.
The Head of the Russian delegation, Director of the Department for Non-Proliferation and Arms Control of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vladimir Ermakov commented on Washington’s recent refusal to issue visas to several Russian officials to attend the final meeting of the Preparatory Committee for the 2020 Review Conference on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty.
According to him, from the point of view of Multilateral Diplomacy, this decision is “complete absurdity and an absolutely unacceptable situation”.
“The Russian Federation urgently demands from the United States the unconditional fulfillment of American obligations to ensure unhindered access of Russian Representatives to all UN events held in the United States. This requirement fully applies to the NPT Review Conference in 2020”, the Diplomat mentioned.
