As of now, Russia has not reached out to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for assistance concerning the situation in the Kursk region, according to a statement published on the CSTO's official website.
The organization clarified that, per established procedures, any member state requiring military assistance must formally request it. "No such request has been made by the Russian Federation regarding the situation in the Kursk region," the CSTO noted.
The organization emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation. The CSTO described the potential escalation of the conflict into its area of responsibility as a significant development. Their analytical service is operating around the clock, staying updated on the situation, and will act according to the organization's charter. There is ongoing information exchange between the CSTO Secretariat and relevant Russian authorities.
The massive attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Kursk region began on August 6. The region has repeatedly been under missile threat, leading to the evacuation of over 720 people in the past 24 hours, according to Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM). More than 9,500 people are currently housed in temporary shelters, and a federal emergency regime has been declared in the region.
