Mikhail Bogdanov, Russian President's Special Representative for the Middle East and African countries and Deputy Foreign Minister, said in a telephone conversation on Wednesday with Sultan Al-Mureihi, Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, that Moscow highly appreciates the agreements reached at the summit of the Arab Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries held the day before in Saudi Arabia.
According to a Russian Foreign Ministry report, the Qatari diplomat informed during the conversation about the summit's results as well as the content of the signed joint statement of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE and Egypt on the issue of normalization of relations.
"The Russian side highly assessed the results of the summit and the agreements reached at it," the Russian diplomatic office pointed out. - "It was stressed that from the very beginning of the crisis that emerged in June 2017, Moscow has actively supported efforts to overcome the differences between Qatar, on the one hand, and the four Arab states, on the other, through a constructive dialogue based on the principles of mutual respect for state sovereignty and independence, as well as non-interference in each other's internal affairs."
The conversation was initiated by the Qatari side.
On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia hosted the 41st summit of the GCC, which includes Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia. Its main result was the signing of an agreement to end all disputes with Qatar, restore full diplomatic relations as well as resuming flights and lifting the blockade. Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry also put his signature under the document.
