Russia hopes that work on the road map on normalizing relations between Syria and Turkey will continue, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters.

"The meeting of the deputy foreign ministers of Turkey, Syria, Russia, Iran is being held. We are working on the issue of normalizing relations between Damascus and Ankara," Bogdanov said.

He noted that this process should be built on coordinated principles of mutual respect, territorial integrity, unity and sovereignty of Syria. "You know that the foreign ministers of Russia, Syria, Turkey and Iran met in Moscow on May 10. We were instructed to prepare a roadmap for this process to normalize interstate relations between Syria and Turkey. We hope that we will move forward in this work, too," the special presidential representative explained.

Astana hosts an international meeting on Syria in the Astana format on June 20-21. Delegations from guarantor countries - Russia, Turkey and Iran, as well as representatives of the Syrian government and opposition are taking part in the talks. It is expected that representatives of the UN, Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq will participate as observers.
