Russia has increased the number of troops in the joint trilateral exercises, which will be held from August 5 to 10 in Tajikistan at the Harb-Maydon training ground 20 kilometers from the border with Afghanistan, to 1,800 people. The number of equipment involved has also been doubled, the district's press service told reporters on Monday.

"In accordance with the decision of the commander of the Central Military District troops, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, the strength of the Russian military contingent for participation in the joint exercises of units of the armed forces of Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan has been increased. The number of personnel was increased to 1.8 thousand soldiers and the number of military and special equipment, involved in joint exercises, was doubled to 420 units," the press service reported.

The press service specifies that more than 2.5 thousand military servicemen and about 500 units of armament and military hardware will be involved in joint exercises of Russia, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu earlier said at a meeting of defense ministers of the SCO countries in Dushanbe that the countries will practice practical actions for the destruction of gangs, air reconnaissance and protection of objects. Units of the 201st military base will form the core of the Russian military contingent at the exercise.
