Russian diplomats are working tirelessly with all parties involved to secure the release of Russian citizens being held in the Gaza Strip, Dmitry Dogadkin, Russia's Ambassador to Qatar, told TASS.
“Thanks to our diplomatic efforts, including those of our embassy in Doha, we successfully secured the release of three Russian citizens — Elena Trufanova, Irina Tatti, and Ron Krivoy — in November last year,” Dogadkin noted. “We continue to actively engage with all parties involved to achieve further progress in this direction.”
The ambassador also highlighted that two Russian citizens, Alexander Trufanov and Maxim Harkin, a native of Donetsk, are still being held in Gaza.
Dogadkin noted that following the outbreak of conflict in Gaza in October 2023, the Russian Embassy in Qatar established a communication channel with the political bureau of the Palestinian movement Hamas, which is based in Doha. “It's no secret that Doha, alongside Cairo, hosts indirect talks between Hamas and Israel. We maintain constant contact with the Palestinians,” he added, responding to a question about whether Russia is discussing a ceasefire in Gaza with Hamas leaders.
