Russia, Iran and Turkey issued a statement on the results of the Astana negotiations

Russia, Iran and Turkey issued joint statement on the International Meeting on Syria in the Astana format in Nur-Sultan, December 10 -11.


The document, which is published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry, notes that the guarantor countries of the Astana process reject the initiative to create new realities on the ground, including illegitimate self-rule initiatives, under the pretext of combating terrorism.


Russia, Iran and Turkey also reaffirmed their "strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic", as well as to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and highlighted that these principles should be universally respected and complied with.


The document condemns the continuing Israel`s military attacks in Syria in violation of the international law and international humanitarian law and endangering the stability and security in the region, as well as opposes to the illegal seizure and transfer of oil revenues that should belong to the Syrian Arab Republic.


In addition, the parties expressed their conviction that there could be no military solution to the Syrian conflict.


They agreed to undertake concrete measures to ensure the protection of the civilian population in Idlib and  to continue cooperation in order to ultimately eliminate ISIS, Al-Nusra Front (are outlawed in Russia).


The guarantor countries of the Astana process also expressed their readiness to support the work of the Constitutional Committee.


Earlier today, it became known that the next International Meeting on Syria in the Astana format would be held in Nur-Sultan in March 2020.
