Russia, Iran, and Turkey Unite in Blaming US Presence for Syrian Instability, Says Special Envoy

25 January

Russia, Iran, and Turkey collectively believe the presence of the United States is the primary factor contributing to instability in Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian President's Special Representative for the Syrian settlement, said during a press conference following the 21st international meeting on Syria in the Astana format.

"We know, and we specifically point out, that the main reason for the ongoing instability in Syria is the illegal American military presence in the two regions," Lavrentiev stated. He emphasized that Russia, along with Turkey and Iran, shares similar positions on this matter.

Furthermore, Lavrentiev highlighted concerns about American plans, suggesting that, initially in northern Syria and now in the south, there are attempts to create quasi-state associations. "These initiatives lack support from the people of Syria, yet such processes are unfolding and need to be resisted," he added.
