Russia is concerned over any escalation of tension on the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Thursday.
"Of course, we perceive with concern any manifestations of escalation of tension in certain sections of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. And of course, this has an extremely negative impact on the regional situation and does not contribute to the normalization of dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and leads to unjustified losses among the population of the two countries," she said.
The diplomat also expressed condolences over the death of Armenian soldier on the border between the two countries and wished speedy recovery to all the victims of the conflict.
According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the immediate launch of work on the delimitation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia can ensure sustainable de-escalation, Russia is ready to back up the efforts with appropriate cartographic information. "We are convinced that sustainable de-escalation can be ensured only by the immediate launch of delimitation of the border between Azerbaijan and Armenia with its subsequent demarcation. We are ready to back up these efforts with the cartographic information we have. The Russian side has prepared a number of documents, which are capable of moving the discussion to a constructive direction," she noted. - "Contacts on this subject are currently continuing through the foreign policy and defense agencies as well as through the border services of the three countries".
Zakharova stressed that the trilateral working group established in accordance with the agreements of the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia under the co-chairmanship of the deputy prime ministers held several rounds of substantive talks. "We expect that in the near future it will be able to resume its meetings, and, in our view, this would allow the transition to the gradual implementation of joint infrastructure projects, and this fully meets the interests of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the entire South Caucasus," the diplomat added.
