Russia is confident that time-tested ties with Guinea will develop

Russia counts on the further fruitful development of multifaceted relations with Guinea.


"We are confident that the time-tested multifaceted ties between Russia and Guinea will continue to develop fruitfully in the interests of both states. We would like to wish the friendly Guinean people successful overcoming of the current difficult period in its history, success in ensuring the country's early revival, the restoration of its active role in international affairs, peace, prosperity and well-being," the Russian foreign ministry said in a statement on the national holiday of the Republic of Guinea - the Day of declaration of independence, distributed on Saturday.


The diplomatic office noted that Russia continues to provide comprehensive assistance to Guinea, including in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, the training of national personnel, the fight against COVID-19. "Domestic companies, primarily UC Rusal, and Rospotrebnadzor specialists are successfully working in the Republic of Guinea," the ministry added.


"Due to the recent change of power by force, Guinea is experiencing difficult times. We consider it extremely important to ensure a speedy return of the situation to the constitutional framework," the Russian foreign ministry stressed. - "We see no alternative way out of the current crisis but to restore law and order, renounce violence, and establish an inclusive national dialogue".


Russia supports the mediation efforts of ECOWAS and the African union aimed at normalizing the situation in the country.


Situation in Guinea


On September 5, colonel Mamadi Doumbouya, commander of Guinea's elite special forces unit, announced that president Alpha Condé, who has led the country since 2010, had been detained. The rebels formed the National committee for cohesion and development of Guinea, abrogated the constitution, dissolved the government and parliament, appointed military governors, and imposed a curfew.


The military rebels on Tuesday announced a transitional charter under which they will not be able to participate in national and local elections in the country. The document enshrines Doumbouya as transitional president and calls for a transitional government headed by a civilian prime minister and a National transitional council to replace the 81-member parliament. These "parliamentarians," the portal noted, would include representatives of political parties, civil society, diasporas, religious organizations, etc.
