Russia is not involved in the unrest in the United States, the Kremlin said

01 June 2020

The Kremlin closely monitors the unrest in the United States and considers what is happening in their internal affairs. At the same time, Moscow has never interfered with what is happening in America and is not going to interfere now. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, commenting on earlier accusations against Russia of organizing riots after the death of an Afro-American at the hands of police.

"We are certainly very closely watching what is happening in the United States, but what is happening there is an internal matter of this country, we have never interfered in American affairs and we are not going to interfere now," he said, in particular.

Former national security adviser Susan Rice said earlier that Russia might be behind the violence during the protests in the United States. Rice did not provide any evidence or specific facts.

These charges were also commented on in the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Russian permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna and the Foreign Ministry.

The head of the International Committee of the FC Konstantin Kosachev said that the accusations against Russia in organizing protests in the United States may be part of another anti-Russian campaign, as always, based on fakes.

«It happened. The American fake news machine with a screeching, puffing and dribbling, broke out in the same long-predicted action, " Kosachev wrote, in particular, on Facebook.

"And that would be very funny. But it will be sad, because this may be the first signs before deterioration, " the Senator said, stressing that "it does not smell bad in Russia."

According to the parliamentarian, official Washington "will have enough awareness of the horror of what is happening in American cities this time - sincere words of sympathy for all those who have suffered, and those who will still suffer, and an elementary instinct of self-preservation that does not allow political games on a national tragedy."

Kosachev also noted that Rice's statement is "a direct insult - and not so much to Russia, which in this situation simply does not exist and cannot be, as to its own people and the memory of US citizen George Floyd."

Senator Oleg Morozov in an interview for RIA Novosti said that the accusations against Russia about its alleged involvement in the riots in the United States were like the ravings of a madman, which no one would believe.

"Such statements look like the ravings of a madman. But I'm sure the situation is such that no one will believe this. The motives and reasons for what is happening are too obvious, " Morozov said.

According to him, the former adviser to Obama is "quite reasonable" and understands what she is saying.

"In other words, her task is to once again draw the attention of American society to the swamp of Russophobia. It is a habit to  search for the enemy outside. Deflect the blow from the White House and the American elite in general. On the principle of "who else, if not Russia?",  the Senator said.

Mikhail Ulyanov, permanent representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, considers Rice's statements about Moscow's involvement in the riots in the United States to be a demonization of Russia.

"That's incredible! But she's not joking. She is absolutely serious. Demonizing the Russians or brainwashing? Or maybe both? " the diplomat wrote on Twitter.

Elena Panina, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said in an interview for RIA Novosti that ethnic conflicts in the United States would escalate under any government and any President as the economic situation in the country worsens.

According to Panina, accusing Russia of interfering in US affairs has become a kind of conditioned reflex of part of the American political class, which manifests itself in situations described by the formula "something went wrong".

"For thirty years, the United States not only extolled its achievements in the field of race and ethnic relations but also tried to impose its model on other countries. However, the riots in Ferguson in August 2014 put an end to this myth, and since then the situation has only worsened. The events in Minneapolis, which caused pogroms across the country, are only a continuation of the history of racial conflict in America, which in fact never stopped," she said, adding that black activists in the United States were accused of secret ties with the USSR throughout the twentieth century.

"However, the Los Angeles riot of 1992, which became a real disaster for the United States, in which over a million people took part, was suppressed by the US army and led to mass casualties, took place after the Soviet Union was gone, and America could only blame itself for it," Panina said.

According to her, against the background of the upcoming US elections, the "racial factor" will be used for their own purposes by forces interested in the current us President Donald Trump leaving the White House.

"However, the causes of national conflicts in America are deeply rooted in American history, and as the economic situation worsens, they will escalate under any government and any President," Panina concluded.

Allegations of Russian involvement in the riots in the United States have no basis and are dirty methods and manipulation of information, wrote the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on Facebook.

Addressing Rice, Zakharova noted that former US Secretary of state Hillary Clinton and the entire team of former US President Barack Obama "convinced themselves and tried to convince the whole world that the internal problems of the US are created and aggravated by someone "from outside", namely Russia."

"You are trying to repeat this mistake today, resorting together with a CNN journalist to dirty methods of information manipulation: fake statements and zero facts in support of them. Your interview with CNN is propaganda", Zakharova wrote.

She recalled that the social networks that Rice believes are used to incite protests are registered and legally regulated from the United States and belong to Americans.

"Are you trying to play the Russian card again? You are playing too much, go back to reality. Go out to your people and look them in the eye and say that Russian control them using Facebook and Youtube. And I will look at the American "exclusivity" in action, " the diplomat added.

Riots broke out in Minneapolis and several other American cities after the death of African-American George Floyd at the hands of police. Videos surfaced on the Internet showing police officers handcuffing Floyd, knocking him down, and three of them leaning on him, with one of them putting a knee on his neck.

Floyd in the video says several times that he can't breathe, then goes quiet. The man died in intensive care. Four police officers were fired after the riots began, and one of them was charged with negligent homicide.
