Russia is one of the five countries with the highest military expenditures, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) reports. According to the document, in 2019, the Russian Federation spent 65.1 billion dollars on defense (4.5% more than a year earlier), thus taking fourth place in the list.
The United States was in the first position. In 2019, state defense spending increased by 5.3% to $ 732 billion.
Also in the top five are China, India and Saudi Arabia. Last year, China's military expenditures reached $ 261 billion, while India's reached $ 71.1 billion.
Global military spending on defense, according to the Institute, in 2019 amounted to 1,917 billion dollars.
