Moscow is ready to create conditions for dialogue between the Arab countries of the Persian Gulf and Iran, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday at a press conference following talks with his UAE counterpart Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan
"We understand the difficulties, the problems that exist between some Arab countries of this region and the Islamic Republic of Iran. We express our readiness to create conditions for starting a dialogue," he said.
Lavrov noted that the Concept of Collective Security in the Persian Gulf promoted by Russia involves the creation of comfortable conditions for dialogue and provides for the inclusion of external players - permanent members of the UN Security Council, the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the EU. "Our proposal remains on the table, and we are ready to discuss specific details and the nuances of its implementation," he stressed.
The concept of collective security in the Persian Gulf zone was announced by Russia in July 2019. The prospective strategic goal outlined in the document is to create an integral mechanism of collective security and cooperation in the region with the involvement of all local states on an equal basis.
