Russia notes need for efforts to combat terrorism in connection with terrorist attack in Kabul

In connection with the terrorist attack at the entrance of a mosque in Kabul, Moscow notes the need for further efforts to combat terrorism in Afghanistan, Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Monday.


"We condemn the October 3 terrorist attack committed by ISIS (Islamic State, banned in Russia - TASS) group at the entrance to a mosque in the center of the Afghan capital. As a result of the act of terrorism, according to preliminary data, 19 civilians were killed and more than 30 people were wounded. We express our condolences to the families of the victims and wish a speedy recovery to the injured," the diplomat said. - "We note the need to continue efforts aimed at rooting out terrorism in Afghanistan. Relevant assurances have been given by the leadership of the Taliban movement (banned in Russia - TASS), who have stated that no security threats to third countries will emanate from the territory of Afghanistan".


Earlier, the Afghan TV channels reported that the explosion happened on Sunday near the Idghah Mosque in Kabul where the funeral ceremony for the mother of the Taliban representative Zabihullah Mujahid was being held. No Russian citizens were injured, the Russian embassy in the Afghan capital told TASS.
