Russia plans to increase wheat supplies to Algeria

29 September 2022

Russian producers are planning to increase the supply of wheat to Algeria. This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

According to the ministry, a meeting of the mixed intergovernmental commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation chaired by Russian Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev and Algerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni took place the day before.

"Special attention is paid to the development of trade in agricultural products, including increasing the supply of Russian grain. I would like to thank our Algerian colleagues for the consistent easing of requirements for imports of grain products. This allowed our exporters to increase wheat supplies to the Algerian market. At the same time there is a lot of joint work to be done in the current conditions for further increase of export volumes", said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture the volume of mutual trade between the countries reached $3 billion in 2021. Patrushev pointed to the diversification of trade and increase of trade in civilian products as the main task for the future. In particular, mechanical engineering, energy, mining industry and pharmaceuticals may become priority areas of partnership development.

Earlier, the Ministry of Agriculture reported that in June 2021 Russia resumed wheat supplies to the Algerian market after a five-year break.
