30 July 2019

Russia has presented its own concept of security in the Persian Gulf to the UN, Russian Deputy Permanent Representative to the Organization Vladimir Safronkov told  RIA Novosti.

"We have circulated to the UN Security Council and the General Assembly on the agenda item "prevention of armed conflict" the concept of collective security in the Persian Gulf as an official document of the Security Council and the General Assembly",  the Agency quotes the diplomat.

Earlier, this concept was presented in the Russian Foreign Ministry to representatives of Arab states, Iran, Turkey, as well as the "five" permanent members of the UN Security Council, EU, LAS and BRICS countries.

Among the main principles of the Russian concept there are the rejection of the permanent deployment of military non-regional states in the Gulf, the exchange of information of the armed forces, the creation of demilitarized zones, as well as the formation of the organization for security with the participation of Russia, the United States, the European Union, China, India and other stakeholders.
