Russia ratifies protocol on cooperation of CSTO countries in biosecurity

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law ratifying a protocol on cooperation of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) members in the sphere of biological security. The document was published on Friday.


The protocol was signed on August 26, 2022. The document supplements the CSTO charter with a provision on cooperation among members of the organization in the sphere of biological security. Previously, the charter provided for interaction only in the areas of state border protection, information exchange, information security, protection of people and territories from emergency situations of natural and man-made disasters, as well as from the dangers arising during or as a result of military operations.

 

In addition, the protocol establishes the possibility of early termination of the CSTO secretary-general by the Council of Collective Security.


The law enters into force 10 days after its publication.
