Russia has expressed its willingness to assist in settling the issue of disputed territories on the Kyrgyz-Tajikistan border, Head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet Akylbek Zhaparov said on Wednesday in Bishkek during a speech in the national parliament.

"Russia has demonstrated its intention to help on the issue of the border with Tajikistan," he said. According to him, the Russian side has archival materials and other documents that can help resolve the contradictions on the disputed sections.

"This will help us get closer to resolving the issue on the border with Tajikistan," Zhaparov believes. At the same time, he reiterated that the Kyrgyz side considers it necessary to solve all disputes on the border exclusively by peaceful means.

The last aggravation of the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border was on September 14 of this year. According to the Kyrgyz side, Tajik border guards entered the border section near the Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and "took combat positions". In response to their demand to leave the area, the Tajik border guards opened fire, followed by an exchange of fire. On September 17, the Border Guard Service of Kyrgyzstan's State Committee for National Security (SCNS) reported the shelling in Osh Province.

Kyrgyz authorities evacuated about 140,000 residents of the border regions during the conflict. On the Kyrgyz side, 62 people were killed and about 200 wounded in the confrontation.
