Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Syrian Arab Republic Walid Muallem who arrived in Moscow to participate in the 12th meeting of the Permanent Russian-Syrian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation as co-chair of the Syrian side.
During a trusting conversation, the parties discussed practical aspects to further strengthen traditionally friendly Russian-Syrian relations.
At the same time, they thoroughly exchanged views on developments in and around Syria, including the political settlement.
Special attention was paid to the Constitutional Committee, established under decision of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress in Sochi, as well as the post-conflict reconstruction of Syria and facilitating the return of Syrian refugees and internally displaced persons to their places of permanent residence.
The Russian side reaffirmed its consistent and unchanging position in support of ensuring the unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Syria.
