22 December 2022

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Azerbaijani counterpart Ceyhun Bayramov expressed regret over Yerevan's refusal to participate in the talks on the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan scheduled for December 23 in Moscow.

"[The parties] expressed regret over Yerevan's decision not to participate in the meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers scheduled for December 23 in Moscow to discuss the preparation of a peace treaty," the Russian diplomatic office said in a statement issued on Thursday following a telephone conversation between the ministers.

The sides also discussed the situation in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, aggravated in connection with blocking the Lachin corridor and disagreements between the parties on the development of ore deposits in the region. "Lavrov stressed the need to strictly comply with trilateral agreements to ensure unimpeded communication between Nagorno-Karabakh and Armenia through the Lachin corridor," the ministry pointed out.

The ministers emphasized the importance to continue implementing the trilateral statements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on November 9, 2020, January 11 and November 26, 2021, as well as on October 31, 2022.
