Russia-Saudi Arabia intergovernmental commission meeting to be held in the near future

The next meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Russia and Saudi Arabia will take place in the near future. Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Russia  Abdulrahman bin Sulaiman Al-Ahmad said this on Thursday at a meeting of the Khakimov Club expert platform at the Russian Foreign Ministry's Diplomatic Academy.

"The eighth meeting of our joint intergovernmental commission will be held soon," the ambassador said.

According to the diplomat, the relations between Russia and Saudi Arabia have been noticeably intensified lately - both Riyadh and Moscow are doing everything possible to further strengthen relations and develop them in the interests of their peoples. The ambassador noted Russia's active work in the OPEC+ format and the importance of cooperation within that framework for the development of bilateral relations.

The diplomat also noted Russia and Saudi Arabia's potential in the economic sphere, but said that cooperation in this area lags behind the development of political relations between the two countries. In his opinion, the reason for this lag is the insufficient development of mechanisms and limited mutual investments. "This also applies to the banking sphere and certain complexities in the legislation. It is necessary to strengthen the encouragement of the private sector in the development of our relations. This process is underway," he stressed.

The ambassador positively assessed the prospects for bilateral relations. "Russian-Saudi relations are looking to the future. This is a solid basis for rapprochement between us," he said, pointing to the transition to the stage of strategic cooperation between the two countries, with all the economic and political prerequisites available.
