The Russian government intends to simplify the procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship for residents of four countries - Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. According to the document, foreigners will be able to become Russians without giving up their first citizenship.
It is expected that the changes will fulfill the task of President Vladimir Putin - to attract as many new citizens as possible, from 5 to 10 million.
“The draft law will not require to stay in the country for 5 years in order to obtain Russian citizenship. This will affect four countries: Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan”, the head of the State Duma Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov told Interfax.
These citizens will not have to prove their financial situation.
The draft law is planned to be submitted to the State Duma by the end of February.
