Tunisia hosted the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Mikhail Bogdanov with the President of the Presidential Council, Prime Minister of the Government of Libyan National Accord Fayez Al-Sarraj.
The parties discussed the issues of resolving the Libyan crisis under the auspices of the UN, with an emphasis on the need to speed up the negotiation process as soon as possible.
At the same time, the Russian side supported the idea of convening for this purpose a broad national conference with the participation of delegates from all Libyan political forces and regions in the framework of the implementation of the UN Acrion Plan on Libya.
Special attention was paid to the prospects for restoring mutually beneficial the Russian-Libyan cooperation in various fields, including maintaining an active political dialogue and using Russia’s diplomatic potential in the interest of promoting sustainable normalisation in Libya.
