Russia to increase quotas for students from Syria

30 September 2019

Quotas for free education in Russian universities should be significantly increased for foreign students, including those from Syria, Rossotrudnichestvo Deputy Director Mikhail Bryukhanov reported TASS.

He stressed that free education for foreigners in Russia is "a strong tool in expanding the humanitarian influence of Russia."

The last year Russian and Syrian universities signed about 40 cooperation agreements.

Now only a few countries including Russia, China and Iran cooperate with Syrian universities. Russia provides 500 quota places in universities to students from Syria. This year, there were about 2.5 thousand people wishing to study in Russia, i.e. 5 applications for 1 quota place.
