Russia and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) signed a Memorandum on the procedure for transferring and spending targeted voluntary Russian contributions to provide food aid to Syria in the amount of $20 million in 2020-2021. This is stated in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"Within the framework of the Memorandum on assistance to Syria, the WFP will ensure the purchase of domestic food for subsequent distribution as humanitarian aid to the needy population of this country, as well as support for school nutrition programs and the distribution of vouchers for the purchase of food among pregnant and lactating women," the text says.
In addition, a Memorandum was signed on the procedure for transferring and spending targeted voluntary Russian contributions for the development of sustainable school nutrition systems in Tajikistan in the amount of $11.2 million in 2020-2023. "The Memorandum on Tajikistan regulates the financing of the implementation of the 3rd phase of the WFP project on school nutrition in the Republic and covers more than 500 thousand primary school students," the Ministry said.
"The signing of these agreements is a clear confirmation of the course to strengthen our country's interaction with the WFP in accordance with the agreement on strategic partnership between the government of the Russian Federation and the UN world food program for 2019-2022 signed in Rome in April 2019," the foreign Ministry concluded.
