Russia to send the first Turkish astronaut to the ISS in 2023

The first Turkish astronaut can fly to the ISS with the assistance of Russia in 2023. There are no agreements on the first Saudi astronaut yet, Director-General of Glavkosmos Dmitry Loskutov told reporters of RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the International Astronautical Congress in Washington.


"We are waiting for the reaction of Turkish colleagues to the proposal, it should be worked out," he said.


Loskutov reminded that in 2023 the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey is celebrated, the flight of the first Turkish astronaut can be timed to this date.


As for the first astronaut of Saudi Arabia, preliminary discussions on this issue, according to the Director-General of Glavkosmos, are underway, but there are no specific agreements on this matter yet.


It should be noted that earlier the head of the Iranian Space Agency Morteza Barari also said that Iran plans to start negotiations with the Russian side on the issue of sending its astronaut to the International Space Station.
