Russia has expressed its readiness to assist in the creation of unified armed forces for Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. His statement followed talks with the foreign ministers of the three nations, which together form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
"As you have already heard today, the confederation’s joint forces are being established. Russia has confirmed that, in addition to ongoing bilateral defense cooperation, we are prepared to support the formation of these unified armed forces by providing advisory assistance," Lavrov stated.
He also highlighted Russia’s experience in military cooperation, particularly with Belarus and within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). "I am confident that this experience will be valuable in shaping the Sahel Alliance’s unified armed forces," Lavrov added.
