01 October 2019

In the near future, Nur-Sultan will host a high-level meeting of Astana format countries – Russia, Turkey and Iran, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey  Vershinin said at the meeting of the UN Security Council.

"The practice of holding high-level international meetings on Syria in the Astana format will be continued. Another meeting is scheduled to be held in the capital of Kazakhstan in the near future", - the Russian diplomat said.

Vershinin called for international support for the Syrian Constitutional Committee, the final composition of which had been announced earlier, and said about "the inadmissibility of attempts to interfere in the inter-Syrian dialogue and impose recipes that are not compatible with cultural, religious and national traditions of Syrian people".

The first meeting of the Constitutional Committee of Syria, which includes 150 representatives of the government, opposition and civil society, will be held in Geneva on October 30.
