Russia, Turkey, Iran, and Syria to meet next week in Moscow

29 March 2023

A meeting of deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria, and Turkey will be held in Moscow next week. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said this on Wednesday at a press conference following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"Today we spoke with my colleague Mr. Lavrov. Just here next week this four-party meeting will take place at the level of deputy ministers," he said, responding to a related question.

The Iranian foreign minister noted that the main goal of the meeting would be to "bring Turkey and Syria's views closer together." "Tehran and Moscow will also make efforts to bring their views closer. And if some framework is determined at these talks next week, then the next meeting could take place at the level of foreign ministers," he pointed out.

The deputy foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Syria and Turkey were to meet in Moscow in March to discuss preparations for a ministerial meeting on normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus.
