Russia urged to lift unilateral sanctions on Sudan

05 November 2019

Russia supports the call for the lifting of unilateral sanctions against Sudan, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative at UN Dmitry Polyanskiy said at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

According to him, the situation in the country returns to normal: a Constitutional Declaration was signed, a Prime Minister was elected and a transitional government was formed.

"Now the task of the international community is to help with the economic recovery of this country," the diplomat stressed.

Sanctions against Sudan, included by the US authorities in 1993 in the list of sponsors of terrorism, among other things, limit the ability of Sudanese banks to work with foreign partners.
