Russia urged to pay attention to rights of refugees in Syrian territories under US control

The international community should pay close attention to the human rights situation in Syrian refugee camps in US-controlled territories, Russian Representative Stepan Kuzmenkov said on Tuesday during an informal meeting of the UN General Assembly on the human rights situation in Syria.

"The international community should be concerned about the state of human rights, the rights of children and women in refugee camps in US-controlled territories, which are fully responsible for what is happening there as an occupying force," he said.

Kuzmenkov also noted that during the meeting "neither the panelists nor some especially zealous defenders of human rights told about the real problems" of the country, and designated the struggle of Syria with terrorist groups, the violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state and the effect of unilateral sanctions as the real difficulties.

The Representative of the Russian diplomatic mission once again stressed that the preparation of country resolutions and meetings on them are used not for mutually respectful dialogue and constructive cooperation in solving human rights problems, but to put pressure on individual UN member states.

"Today's politicized discussion has nothing to do with international cooperation to protect and promote human rights. Accordingly, the discussion imposed on us cannot contribute to the stabilization of the situation in Syria or to international efforts for an inter-Syrian settlement," Kuzmenkov summarized.
