Russia urged to send UN Security Council mission to Palestine

19 December 2019

Russia considers it urgent to send the  UN Security Council mission to the region of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya stated at the UN Security Council meeting.

"The unresolved Palestinian issue continues to fuel extremism in and out of the region. There are periodic outbreaks of armed confrontation around the Gaza strip, growing discontent in the Palestinian Arab street, " the diplomat said.

The source of constant irritants, according to Nebezya, is the settlement activity of Israel and the demolition of Palestinian houses.

"In these circumstances, it is more important than ever to mobilize the efforts of a constructive international community to support the universally recognized basis for a Middle East settlement. It is necessary to continue working with Palestinian and Israeli partners, states of the Middle East and North Africa region. In this regard, it seems relevant to send the Security Council mission to the region, " the Russian Ambassador said.
