Moscow welcomes the agreements reached by Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on a number of fundamental points related to the Agency's verification activities in that country. This was said in a statement by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on Thursday.
The diplomat noted that, in particular, it is about continuing cooperation on safeguards issues, including exchange of information and contacts of experts in this regard, providing the Iranian authorities with a sample of CCTV cameras used by the agency for the necessary analysis and, most importantly, the reinstallation of such cameras at the centrifuge rotor manufacturing facility in Karaj.
"We welcome these arrangements. We support the mutual intention of the IAEA and Iran to continue cooperation both within the framework of the comprehensive safeguards agreement and in accordance with the requirements of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to resolve the Iranian nuclear program and in light of UNSCR 2231," she said.
According to Zakharova, the good news is more important than ever to stimulate the progressive course of the talks resumed in Vienna on November 29 to restore full implementation of the JCPOA, which have been going on almost continuously. "We expect that through the joint efforts of all parties involved and with the support of the agency, the difficulties in implementing the 2015 nuclear deal will be overcome and tension around the Iranian nuclear program will subside, which is fully consistent with the interests of non-proliferation and strengthening security at the regional and global levels," the Russian Foreign Ministry official added.
