Moscow will not participate in the planned September 8 meeting on Afghanistan at the level of foreign ministers, which the G7 countries wanted to hold with the participation of Russia and China.

"Russia will not take part in this meeting," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told TASS on Tuesday.

Earlier, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said that the foreign ministers of the G7 states are planning to hold a meeting, the main topic of which will be the situation in Afghanistan. According to him, the meeting would also be attended by representatives of Russia and China. He noted that such consultations may take place on September 8.

Zakharova told TASS that the Russian side has no understanding of the G7 meeting on Afghanistan involving the Russian Federation and the PRC. Zakharova said Moscow received signals from Paris and Berlin regarding a possible meeting on the subject but did not discuss it in the G7 format.
