The Russian Air Force conducted an airstrike on a terrorist training base near Palmyra, destroying two hideouts, up to 200 fighters and about 500 kg of ammunition, Rear Admiral Alexander Karpov, Deputy Head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria, told reporters.
He said that "according to the information received, north-east of Palmyra, the militants created a camouflaged base, where the formation of combat groups for sending and carrying out terrorist attacks in different regions of the country, as well as the manufacture of improvised explosive devices was conducted."
"After data was confirmed through several channels on the location of the terrorists' facilities, Russian Air Force aircraft carried out airstrikes that destroyed two hideouts, up to 200 militants, 24 pickup trucks with large-caliber machine guns, as well as about 500 kg of ammunition and components for making improvised explosive devices," the Deputy Head of the Center said.
He said illegal armed groups are planning terrorist attacks and attacks on state institutions in major cities to destabilize the country ahead of the Syrian presidential election.
"The terrorists are being trained in militant training camps in territories outside the control of the Syrian authorities, including Al-Tanf zone, which is controlled by the US armed forces," the Rear Admiral stressed.
According to him, over the past 24 hours, no shelling by illegal armed groups under Turkish control was registered, while 33 shellings from the positions of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (banned in the Russian Federation) were recorded in the de-escalation zone in Idlib.
