Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, paid tribute to the memory of Alexei Kruglov, a prominent Orientalist diplomat who served as Consul General of the Russian Empire in Aleppo and Jerusalem in the early 20th century. Rudakov laid a wreath at Kruglov's grave in the cemetery of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Shueifat, marking the occasion with a ceremony attended by Metropolitan Silouan (Musa) of Mountain Lebanon, local officials, embassy staff, and compatriots.
The ceremony, held in conjunction with the Day of Diplomatic Worker on February 10, included a requiem liturgy conducted by Metropolitan Silouan and was accompanied by Archimandrite Philip (Vasiltsev). In his address, Ambassador Rudakov underscored the significance of honoring figures like Kruglov, highlighting their contributions to national diplomacy and the enduring humanitarian ties between Russians and Lebanese.
Reflecting on Kruglov's tenure, Rudakov emphasized the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and adherence to international law that guide modern diplomatic efforts. Zoya Ruhanna-Jureidini, Kruglov's granddaughter, expressed gratitude for the recognition of her grandfather's legacy, noting Russia's historic role as a protector of Eastern Christians in the region.
