Cooperation in the fight against terrorism and the development of relations between Iraq and Russia to ensure security in the region were discussed Sunday by Russian Ambassador to Baghdad Maxim Maximov and the Arab republic's National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji. This, according to Al Sumaria TV channel, was stated in a statement released by the latter's press service.
"Today, on Sunday, National Security Advisor Qassem al-Araji received Russian Ambassador in Baghdad Maxim Maximov in his office," it reads. - "They discussed issues of mutual interest, cooperation between the two countries and ways to develop relations between Iraq and Russia to ensure security and stability in the region".
"In particular, the parties discussed the Al-Hol camp on the Iraqi-Syrian border, the importance of working on the exchange of information to ensure the security of Iraqi borders and prevent infiltration of militants, as well as cooperation in the fight against terrorism," the communiqué noted.
According to the statement, al-Araji stressed "the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of armaments, expressing the desire to further develop relations in the interests of the two friendly countries."
