The United States has finally undermined the credibility of the dollar in the international arena after imposing illegal sanctions. Russian Ambassador to Turkey Alexei Yerkhov said this on Friday in an interview with the Ekonomim Turkish publication.
"In fact, the US has finally undermined the credibility of the dollar by imposing illegal sanctions, freezing the sovereign assets of states. They put pressure on their partners, openly threaten them, force them to participate in anti-Russian restrictions, which clearly harms the interests of companies, and the business community suffers losses. Therefore, countries wishing to pursue domestic and foreign policies independent of Western dictates face the important task of strengthening their financial and economic sovereignty. One way to ensure the reliability and stability of bilateral trade from the provocative actions of hostile countries is to increase the share of payments in national currencies," he stressed.
He acknowledged, however, that "some are succeeding in this area, others not so much." "At the moment, I don't think the mechanisms of settlement in national currencies with Turkey are working at a sufficient level. I think that both sides should seriously work on this issue," the diplomat said.
