The decision on reviving the nuclear deal with Iran in its entirety should take into account the national interests of the Russian side, Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
"Our national interests must be taken into account. As it is necessary for the continuation of fruitful cooperation between Iran and Russia," he said. The diplomat added that "cooperation with Iran is very important for the Russian side".
On March 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow had asked Washington for written guarantees, at least at the level of the Secretary of State, that the sanctions situation would not affect its cooperation with Tehran. He explained that amid new Western sanctions, the Russian side wants a "very clear answer" from the United States in the context of bilateral ties between Moscow and Tehran as well as the Iranian nuclear deal.
On February 8, the eighth round of talks resumed in Vienna after a break in order to restore the nuclear deal to its original form and bring the US back into this multilateral agreement. The work is being carried out both within the framework of the Joint Commission between Iran and Russia, Britain, Germany, China, and France, and in the format of separate consultations with the United States without the participation of Tehran, which is not yet ready for a direct dialogue with the US side. The negotiators have already agreed to speed up the process of working on the draft agreement. It is expected that the eighth round could be the last.
