Nikolai Patrushev, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, recently held a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council. The meeting, which took place in Johannesburg on the sidelines of a high-level gathering of BRICS countries, focused on enhancing cooperation between Russia and Iran on various international and regional security matters.
During the discussions, both sides emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue between their respective security councils. This ongoing communication aims to facilitate effective coordination between Russia and Iran on a wide range of security issues, including counter-terrorism efforts, countering "color revolutions," and furthering trade and economic ties.
The meeting marked Ahmadian's first engagement with the secretary of the Russian Security Council since assuming his position as the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council in May 2023.
