Russian and Turkish Defense Ministers discussed the situation in Idlib

Russian and Turkish Defense Ministers Sergey Shoygu and Hulusi Akar held telephone talks, the main topic of which was the situation in Idlib, Syria.


The conversation, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, was initiated by the Turkish side.


"Russian Defense Minister, General of the Army Sergey Shoygu had a telephone conversation with Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar. The parties discussed issues related to the implementation of the Additional Protocol to the Memorandum on stabilization of the situation in the Idlib de-escalation zone", the message reads.


Last week Presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan hold talks. The main topic of discussion was also the escalation in Idlib.


Following the meeting, a joint document was adopted that provides for a ceasefire from midnight on Friday. In addition, the parties agreed to jointly patrol the important M4 highway, which is now under the control of the militants.
