Russian and Turkish diplomats discuss the launch of the "3+3" mechanism for the South Caucasus as soon as possible

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko and his Turkish counterpart Sedat Onal confirmed the relevance of launching the "3+3" mechanism (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, Turkey, Iran) on the South Caucasus as soon as possible.




"The sides discussed a wide range of topical issues of Russian-Turkish interaction in the South Caucasus and Central Asia," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement released on Monday. - "In the context of normalization of relations between Baku and Yerevan, the importance of consistent implementation of the trilateral agreements of the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia of November 9, 2020, and January 11, 2021, was noted. The urgency of launching the "3+3" regional consultative mechanism for the South Caucasus in the near future was stressed".



The sides also exchanged views on the situation in Central Asia, taking into account the current situation in Afghanistan. "The sides reconciled hours on a number of other issues related to the situation in the CIS space, in particular the situation in Ukraine," Smolensk Square noted.



In addition, Russian and Turkish colleagues noted the growth of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries.



Earlier it was reported that the initiative on the six-party format of cooperation (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Turkey and Iran) on Karabakh and the issue of unblocking economic and transport communications in the region was put forward by Azerbaijani and Turkish leaders Ilham Aliyev and Tayyip Erdogan. Iran welcomed the idea, assuring its readiness to promote steps to strengthen peace in the region.
