04 February 2020

Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Representative for the Middle East and Africa Mikhail Bogdanov received Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Moscow Mehmet Samsar at the latter's request.

During the conversation, the diplomats discussed a number of topical aspects of the Middle East agenda with an emphasis on the task of effectively contributing to the early settlement of the crises in Libya and Syria.

Separately, the issue of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was touched upon in the light of Washington's announcement of the "deal of the century" and the reaction of the international community.

US President Donald Trump announced the details of the "deal of the century" on January 28. According to the document, Jerusalem is recognized as the unified and indivisible capital of Israel, and Palestine becomes a fully independent, but demilitarized state, virtually devoid of control over its borders.

As the future capital of Palestine, the plan proposes the village of Abu Dis in the Eastern suburbs of Jerusalem, located behind a security fence.

Palestine categorically rejected the US plan. Statements about the unacceptability of the document were made by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League.
