Russian and Turkish foreign ministers to discuss bilateral ties and grain deal

03 April 2023

A wide range of issues related to bilateral relations, the realization of the grain deal, and current international and regional issues are scheduled to be discussed during the upcoming April 6-7 visit to Turkey by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu informed about this.

"We have a wide range of problems to discuss. Along with bilateral relations, the issue of extending the grain deal will be considered. We had talks with UN Secretary-General [Antonio] Guterres on this issue on March 30. He specifically asked about the possibility of Turkey contributing to the resolution of several issues that the Russians complain about, and we said we were working on it. Russia has agreed to a 60-day extension of the grain deal. There is no clarity on the issue of extending it for 120 days, we will talk about this topic," TRT TV quotes the minister on Monday.

Earlier it was reported that Lavrov would visit Turkey at the invitation of Cavusoglu. As the Russian MFA noted, Lavrov is planning to discuss the state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade, energy and tourism. There will be a detailed exchange of views on topical issues of the regional and international agenda, including the current situation in Ukraine. It is also planned to discuss the schedule of bilateral contacts at various levels.
