Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers to meet in Munich

On February 16, Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Sergey Lavrov and Mevlut Cavusoglu will meet on the sidelines of the Munich security conference. This is reported by the Russian MFA.


The main topic of discussion is  to be the aggravation of the situation in Idlib, Syria.


The situation in Idlib has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. As a result of shelling by Syrian government forces, 8 Turkish soldiers were killed. About 80 Syrian soldiers were killed in retaliatory strikes.


Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has called on Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to influence Syrian President Bashar al-Assad so that government forces stop their offensive in the province.
